OUTLINE (:

Casablanca outline
SETTING: The movie takes place in Casablanca, Morocco and was during the 1940's (WWII).
INTRO: - Two German couriers were murdered in the Moroccan desert and Ugarte gets the letters of transit
- Rick (Humphrey Bogart) wants to go back to America
- German officials want Laszlo to stay in Casablanca since he is the leader of the rebellion against the Nazis.
- The Germans want the person that killed the German couriers to be killed
Problems :
- Rick's ex-lover, Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman), walks back into his life. She asks Sam (Dooley Wilson), the house pianist, to play "As Time Goes By" Rick is mad that Sam is playing that song after he ordered him to never play it and sees Ilsa when furiously walking toward Sam. She is married to Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), who is a fugitive Czech Resistance leader that escaped from a Nazi concentration camp.
- In order for Victor to continue his work, they need the letters to leave for America.
- Signor Ferrari (Sydney Greenstreet), a very popular guy in the criminal underworld and who is also Rick's friendly business rival, tells Laszlo that he suspects the letter to be with Rick.
Big problems:
- Laszlo attempts to get the letters, Rick refuses to bargain with him
    -German officers begin singing a German pride song. Laszlo and the rest of the cafe overpower them with their own song. German officers force Rick to close down his cafe
    - Ilsa makes an attempt at getting the letters from Rick. He doesn’t buy it and knows she won't shoot him because she loves him. Flashback to their romance in Paris
- Ilsa tells Rick that she thought Laszlo had been killed when they fell in love, when in reality he was alive. When Rick and Ilsa were to leave Paris, Ilsa knew Laszlo was alive and left Rick with only a letter.


DOWN HILL FROM HERE:
- Ilsa attempts to get the letters of transit. While Victor goes to the underground rebellion meeting, Ilsa goes to see Rick. Ilsa threatens to kill Rick with a gun if he doesn't give her the letters of transit so she and Victor can be safe and Victor can continue his work in America. Ilsa doesn't kill Rick because she still loves him. Rick and Ilsa talk about the situation. Ilsa had to keep her marriage a secret to protect herself and Victor from the Nazis

Conclusion:
-Germans are looking for Lazlo.
- Rick sets up a trap for Victor to get capture. Rick is about to shoot Renault, but he frees Victor.
- Victor and Ilsa use the transit letter to go to America with the help of Rick.
-he German officers come prepare to make and arrest but are shoot by Rick.

-Worked as nurses; helping injured soldiers.

-Were not allowed to fight in war.

Cause and Effect of Use of the Atomic Bomb
Causes:
- New government in Japan on 1941.
-Pearl Harbor attack in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. Caused major damage to the United States.
-United States declared war on Japan and dropped atomic bombs.
Effects:
-Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima (killed 90,000 immediately), and Nagasaki (killed 70,000 immediately)
-Lasting effects of radiation; severe health problems for Japanese citizens.
-Destroyed everything: homes, cities, and people.

US Foreign Policy before, during And after WWII:
-US aid to war for allied forces; weapons; battleships
-US stayed neutral until 1941
-US active with allies.

Effect of the War on Europe
-Damage to all of the European countries. (Structural)
-Population declines.
-Tension.
-A lot of debt.
-Extreme numbers  of death in countries where the Holocaust took place.




Effect of Pearl Harbor Attack
-Death of American soldiers
-Destruction of the Harbor.
-Caused the US to enter WWII, US declared war on Japan, then Germany declared war on the US.
-US gave entire support to allies.
-US used the atomic bomb twice on Japan, forcing them to surrender.

Japanese Internment:
-Japanese sent to camps by American Government for "protection" of the land
-USA vs Kormazu; US violating rights.

Neutrality Acts:
-Stay out of war
-US battleships were to NOT be armed.
- No US citizen were allowed to travel on ships.
-No selling of weapons

Propaganda:
-Involve more citizens in war.
-Germans wanted allies to attack US
-Prevented US from fighting agaisnt Germany.

Rationing:
-Shortage of food= starved to death.
-Russia destroyed people
-Eating own family members.

Results of WWII:
-Destruction
-Economy in the US ^
-NATO
-The Cold War.
