The Scopes Trial: It brought to national attention the question of whether god made the animals, man and everything, or whether it happened by accident
Prohibition: a period of nearly fourteen years of U.S. history in which the manufacture, sale, and transportation of liquor was made illegal. It led to the first and only time an Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was repealed.
Flappers :a new woman was born. She smoked, drank, danced, and voted. She cut her hair, wore make-up, and went to petting parties. She was giddy and took risks. She was a flapper.
Economic Issues (1920s) : Falling grain prices and foreign competition for farmers, Overproduction And Foreign competition
Dust Bowl :dust storm. Tons of topsoil were blown off barren fields and carried in storm clouds for hundreds of miles
Agriculture Issues : farmers didn’t know what there future was going to be. Many lost there farms and homes.
Immigration Policies (1920s) :a deep hostility in the American public for immigrants and immigration. (red scare). The Sacco and Vanzetti trial was another example of anti-immigrant feelings.
Nativism :caused mainly by immigration. then after WWI Americans were even more afraid that immigrants from war torn Europe would leave to start new lives in America. they did not want the immigrants to take their jobs. but so many new jobs were being made available in this time period that it was inevitable.
Significant Literary Works (1920s) :a domination of music jazz
The Great Migration :a time when African Americans moved west for various reasons trough the 1915-1930
Harlem Renaissance :the cultural movement that spanned
Sacco and Vanzetti :two Italian men who were tried and convicted in 1921 for a dual murder which took place in 1920. Later evidence suggested that the men were actually falsely accused, and the case attracted a great deal of attention.
Labor Issues (1920s) :radicalism is atomized, disoriented, and largely isolated from organized labor
The Red Scare :a strong anti-comunism worker (socialist) revolution and political radicalism.
Schenck v. the United States :a United States Supreme Court decision that concluded that a defendant did not have a First Amendment right to freedom of speech during World War I.
